Finding movies that enlighten as well as entertain

As young adults, we spend a lot of time with entertainment.  Movies, in particular, seem to be the entertainment form of choice; we go to the theater on the weekends and for dates, we talk about them, we buy our favorites on DVD or iTunes.

Young adults (those aged 18-30) make up a significant portion of the market for the film industry. As a result, a lot of movies are targeted at the young adult audience. The film industry tends to focus on and produce movies full of what they think the audience will like: love-scenes, drug and alcohol use, profanity and violence.

As the editors of a new magazine, we all expressed the great love we have for movies.  They include stories and characters that influence, connect us, and become our favorites.  Some of my favorites, for instance, include Benny & Joon, Brothers Bloom and Surf's Up.

I noticed, however, that my interest in entertainment and movies is somewhat dampened by the fact that it is difficult to find entertainment that is not tainted or even riddled with views that conflict with my standards.  So often, I find myself thinking or even saying out loud, "Oh, it was such a good movie! I just wish they had left out that one part...."

So, in order to assist LDS and other young adults that strive to find quality films that are in line with their values, we have created Reel Premiere.  Our goal is to look at the film industry and movies from an LDS paradigm and create a publication that is in line with the views of young adults.

I hope that as you look through our magazine, you'll find articles and information that will entertain, inform, and make your overall experience with movies more enjoyable.
